Waiting Well: 4 All My Single Ladies

Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl

44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. 45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. 46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it! Matthew 13:44-46 (NLT)

The other day while having a conversation with one of my homegirls, Shay, I blurted out “why are we hidden?!” I must’ve taken her by surprise because she responded quickly with “what are you talking about?” Then I began to complain about not being approached by a man in almost two years (outside of social media – DMs don’t count). Being that my friend and I are both saved, single and abstinent women that grind harder than anyone I know…. I couldn’t help but ponder, why are we STILL single? I’ve been single 2.5 years and abstinent 1.5 years, seems like forever, but not hardly. I know women who have been single much longer. So, yea, I should have several seats.

You might ask, what do I mean by hidden. It is a term that I was introduced to over a year ago by one of my favorite bloggers, Mrs. Rita Brooks. In her blog Rita details her journey from when she first surrendered her heart to the Lord to becoming a Godly wife, mother, counselor and much more. Have you ever heard the Maya Angelou quote “a woman’s heart should be so hidden in God that a man has to seek Him just to find her.” Well with her incredible story, Rita, takes that quote and personifies it. I stumbled upon her blog looking for more information on how to navigate being abstinent in the over sexualized culture that we live in. Needless to say, her blog blessed me and continues to. You can check it out here.

Anyhow, I’ve gone off one of my infamous tangents. In the context of my conversation with Shay, I was saying that I was tired of being hidden. I honestly feel like I’m invisible to men sometimes and wonder what in the world is going on.

Then I remember that I always pray for God to keep men away from me that don’t have good intentions. Either God has me hidden for that special someone or all the men around don’t have good intentions – LOL. I’d like to think that God has a plan for my romantic life and He just loves me too much to allow me to squander it with the wrong guy.

Nearly a week after that conversation with my home girl, I got revelation from the Holy Spirit during my quiet time. I happened to be reading Matthew 13 and it’s not as if I hadn’t read this text before. However, this time, the words just jumped out at me.

I read that text over and over again with great joy in my heart after realizing just how much God loves me. I clearly heard the Holy Spirit speak to my heart through this text from the Word of the Living God. Basically, saying to stay in position that God hides his most valuable assets. Also, that I will know when a man really wants to be with me and has good intentions for me because he will be willing to go all out.

I know that revelation wasn’t just for me. Yes, God answered my question, but this is for you too sis! God loves you so much that He has you right where He needs you to be. Its just that simple. GOD LOVES YOU! GOD LOVES YOU! GOD LOVES YOU! We hear it all the time but how many of us truly believe it. If you want to know why your hidden or why you should wait well in your single season….say it with me now…GOD LOVES YOU! Read it! Believe it! Hide it in your heart and never let it go. This world we live in will try to devalue you then convince you to degrade yourself…DON’T DO IT! GOD LOVES YOU! YOU ARE THE DAUGHTER AND HIDDEN TREASURE OF A KING!

Listen, don’t say I don’t get it because I completely understand! Sometimes I’m content, even happy, that I don’t have to make the sacrifices that people in relationships do. Within reason, I get to eat what I want and do what I want – WHEN I WANT TO! Other times I’m like I want someone to do life with! Then I think about the abundance of women that have settled into miserable 😖 situationships and decide that its better wait on God’s best for my love life. When I say wait…don’t think I mean sit around being passive this is not that type of party sweetheart. The Word of God talks about how laziness and passivity brings poverty. “Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.’ Proverbs 10:4 (NIV)

When I am led by the Lord to write the follow-up for this blog, I will talk about some of the things I am doing with my single season.

What is or was your why? Why did or are you waiting well for the husband/wife God has for you? I want to know, comment below!

The Word: Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl

44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. 45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. 46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it! Matthew 13:44-46 (NLT)

The Story: Its not always easy to embrace the season your in. More recently, I found myself unfocused and in a funk about being hidden in God. I didn’t want to embrace my single season. Asking God why am I hidden? God why should I wait well? God do I really need to do relationships your way?

The Lesson: All the while God is saying that He loves us, and we need to focus on Him. He has us in the palm of his hands. Take courage and know that God loves us, and He has wonderful plans for us! God cares about every intricate detail of our lives even the “girl talk” we think He has no interest in. Isn’t it simply amazing that we serve a God who answers even the silliest questions we may have when He doesn’t have to?

Bonus: Stay strong in your single season! Listen to one of the songs that helps encourage me and put my focus back on God where it belongsStrong (Live) (feat. William Murphy)
